Wellness Care

Your pet is a part of your family; a true companion; a loyal friend. Because of this, you want to see them live as many years as possible and to make sure those years are healthy and happy.

What’s the best way to achieve this goal? The answer is simple: by making a commitment to ongoing wellness care. It’s the greatest gift you could ever give your pet.

By bringing your pet in at least once a year, you allow us to take the appropriate measures to both prevent disease and to catch it in its earliest stages. Disease prevention and early detection can add years to your companion’s life and greatly improve the quality of those years. Carlsbad Animal Hospital offers comprehensive wellness care for pets of all ages, to help extend and improve their lives and keep them as happy and healthy as possible.

Our wellness services at Carlsbad Animal Hospital have been specifically designed to provide for your pet’s current health care needs at the time of each visit and to adapt to changes as they occur along the way. For your puppy or kitten, wellness visits will focus on vaccinations and nutrition, while your adult pet’s care will target disease prevention and early detection. When your pet reaches his or her senior years, wellness care will shift toward disease management and find ways to make these later years as happy and comfortable as possible. We want to deliver the precise care your pet needs, at the very moment it’s needed, for optimum results.

A typical wellness visit at Carlsbad Animal Hospital includes a comprehensive physical examination, during which the doctor will perform a complete “nose to tail” evaluation of your pet. We’ll examine your pet’s nose, eyes, and ears, check your pet’s teeth and oral cavity, listen to your pet’s heart and lungs, carefully examine the skin and coat, look for any unusual lumps or swelling, palpate the abdomen and muscles and perform an orthopedic evaluation of the bones, joints and back. We’ll also discuss and provide recommendations for things like parasite control, nutrition, and weight management, behavior and more.
